Short-beaked Echidna

The short-beaked Echidna is Australia’s most widespread animal with its scientific name “Tachyglossus aculeates” meaning spiny and quick tongued. Echidnas are solitary animals except during breeding season when a female can be followed by “trains” of suitors with up to 10 males following her every move in a single file cue.
